In the past 15 years, researchers at the Institute for Global Health and Development (IGHD) have made a significant impact on health and public policy on performance-based financing (PBF) and health financing strategies, particularly in fragile and conflict affected states. Work led by Professor Witter has driven the debate on PBF and incentives, contributing to the academic literature but also engaging with experts and practitioners to change the implementation practices. This research has influenced the policy of the World Bank, the World Health Organisation, the Global Fund, and the UK's Department for International Development, as well as effectively shaped policy at national level in several countries.
